The shift from the dialectic rethorics of the Cold War to the religious rhetorics of the world after 9/11, puts new demands on political art-making.
Light upon Light explores the new monotheistic rhetorics of contemporary global conflicts and takes off where Kap Atlantis breaks off by bringing in the rhetorics of non-territorial warfare.
“God is the light of the heavens and the earth. The parable of His light is, as it were, that of a niche containing a lamp; the lamp is in glass, the glass like a radiant star: lit from a blessed tree – an olive-tree that is nethier of the east nor of the west – the oil whereof would well-nigh give light even though fire had not touched it: light upon light!”
– Sura 24, verse 35 From The Message of The Qur’an (Translated by Muhammad Asad)
